The deadline to submit a nomination is Thursday, March 23, 2023. ![]() Though the venue has been moved from Killian Court to 10-250 to the Samberg Center today, the spirit has remained the same. The awards recognize many of the qualities we hold dear at MIT: excellence in academics and teaching, public service, community building, achievements in the arts and athletics, leadership, and entrepreneurship. The MIT Awards Convocation honors MIT students, faculty, staff, and community members who have made outstanding contributions to the shared life of the Institute. Visit the School of Science website, and submit a nomination today! MIT Awards Nominations can be made at any time and award-winners will receive a token of your appreciation soon after. The monetary value of these awards is relatively small, but their value is immeasurable. Spot Awards are intended to acknowledge and demonstrate appreciation and recognition for the exceptional contributions of individuals and teams, large or small. RAK Week is also a great opportunity to nominate your fellow Department of Chemistry members for other recognition awards, at both the School of Science and Institute levels. Thursday, Ma– Succulentsīeginning at 10AM while supplies last, come to Chemistry Headquarters (18-393) or the Chemistry Education Office (6-205) and pick up a miniature potted succulent to give to someone to brighten their day and desk area. Visit the Chemistry Kindness Wall outside of 6-205 from 10AM – 4PM on Wednesday, March 15 to leave an uplifting note on the bulletin board. Wednesday, Ma– Chemistry Wall of Kindness Swing by a pie station in the Chem Ed office (6-205 ) from 10AM-12:30PM to pick up individual pie-themed treats to celebrate Pi Day. Stop by the Chem Ed office (6-205) beginning at 9AM on Monday, March 13 while supplies last to pick up a $10 Tech Cash card with which to do something nice for another person. In New Zealand, there is another Random Acts of Kindness Day on September 1 every year, however, this one is unrelated. It tries to inspire individuals to do good deeds and be nice to others. The United States observes an unofficial holiday in observance of this day. All members of the department are encouraged to participate in this highly spirited and enjoyable event! Monday, Ma– RAK Week Tech Cash Cards Random Acts of Kindness Day is being observed on February 17th, 2023. RAK Week is a fun, light-hearted week meant to encourage us to support one another, because MIT is not a place one can handle alone.Ĭheck out the agenda below for information on the Department of Chemistry-sponsored RAK Week events open to all Chemistry staff, faculty, and students. We hope to not only encourage people to connect with each other, but also to connect with support resources on campus. What would this kind world be like compared to a nastier, selfish world? Finish up by asking students to think about what small kind acts they could do today or in the future.RAK Week is a time dedicated to connecting members of the MIT community through small acts of kindness. Next help your students to imagine a world in which more people decided to be kind to everyone around them. Ask: how does kindness make you feel? What kind of kind things have others done for you? Next ask: what kind things have you done for others? Show through this discussion how kindness is easy to do but has an effect that far outweighs the effort. Begin it with a chat about why kindness is important. The theme of this day should be fairly straightforward to convey. These small acts create a more caring atmosphere in our workplaces, our schools and our communities. doing little things to make others' everyday lives easier such as helping someone cross the road, helping a neighbour, or buying someone’s groceries. The day is especially about the concept of ‘paying it forward’ e.g. It follows the framework of ‘Inspire, Empower, Act, Reflect and Share’. According to the Foundation, the day ‘is rooted in the belief that all people can connect through kindness and that kindness can be taught’. This day was set up in 1995 along with the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation in Denver, Colorado. ![]()
